A Stock's "Beta"... FYI... What is a stock's "beta" all about, anyway?... (we found it in the Yahoo! Finance sidebar, under "Key Statistics") A stock's beta is the number describing the relation of a stock's returns with that of the financial market as a whole. A positive beta generally means that the stock generally follows the market. A negative beta shows that the stock inversely follows (does the opposite, or different than) the market... The beta value for INTC is: 1.15, a positive number indicating that Intel generally follows the market.

Very simply - just enter your own stock using the link above, to see these corresponding values and their real-time calculations.
Company name and where traded: "INTC" is Intel's stock symbol, and the full name is: Intel Corporation. It is publicly-traded on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange.
Latest Price: Intel's current price is $30.43 (closing price that day). This also shows, right below the larger, bold-faced price number, that the latest extended-hours trade was at 6:43pm, and that it has traded down 3 cents (or -0.10%) to $24.22. If the extended-hours price difference were sharply higher or lower, you may want to check the news for this stock to see if an earnings release or some other factor(s) may have affected the stock.
Day's price trading range: Indicates that INTC traded that day, at the lowest price of $23.80, to the highest price traded that day of $24.36.
52-week price range: In the last year, INTC has a "52-week low" of $14.96, and a 52-week high price of $24.37. This "52-week high" is important to know, given that the most recent trading price is almost right in the middle of the 52-week range. This may assist you in determining, along with all other factors, if you believe the stock will go up or down in price from this point.
Opening trade price: The first trade on this day for INTC was at a price of $23.87. This may assist you to know this if you were, for example, deciding to trade in the early afternoon, and comparing the price swings from the opening price to that point in the day, to try to determine if you believe the price will go up or down from there.
Volume today versus average daily trading volume: Higher volume versus the average volume traded. Lower volume can indicate a vulnerability to more volatile movements (i.e., changes) in price. Higher volumes indicate less volatility usually, and is typically a safer trading environment. In general, stocks with lower average volumes tend to be more risky, and sometimes more speculative, stock trades.
Market capitalization: The total market capitalization is a snapshot of how much that company's value is pegged, given its stock price that day. It is a calculation of the current price (i.e., $24.22) times the number of shares outstanding (i.e., 5.52 billion, shown on the sidebar link, "Key Statistics"). This calculation yields a "market cap" or "market value" for INTC on that day of $133.80 billion.
P/E: The "P/E ratio", calculated by taking the current share price (i.e., $24.22), divided by the EPS, or earnings per share, shown below that amount (i.e., $0.774). Therefore, $0.774 goes into $24.22 31.29 times, indicating that INTC currently, at that exact share price, has a P/E ratio of 31.29. This is important as it allows you to take a similar company, say Advanced Micro Devices (symbol = AMD), and make a more apples-to-apples comparison of their stock prices, and the potential value they represent to you when you compare them. If INTC has this P/E of 31.29, and then you see that AT&T's P/E is more double that at 65 (not true), you may quickly decide that INTC is underpriced compared to AMD and that you would buy stock in INTC over AMD.
Dividend amount: The quarterly dividend amount (i.e., dollar amount paid out) quarterly per share owned, is 63 cents. If you take the quarterly dividend amount indicated and you divide that amount into the current share price (i.e., $24.22), you get a resulting dividend yield percentage of about 2.80%, as indicated here.
Dividend yield percentage: See dividend amount described above. Also, you can see more on dividends and yield calculations at StockDividendYields.com.
EPS: The indicated EPS or "earnings per share" is $0.774 per share. This means that, for every share of the 5.52 billion shares outstanding, there is $0.774 in earnings. Doing the math, this would indicate that the last earnings report indicating earnings (calculated as 5.52 billion x $0.774) of $4.272 billion for Intel.
Shares outstanding: Simply indicates the total number of shares outstanding that were issued by the company at that time: The Market Cap divided by the current share price: 5.52 billion shares. This is important for many of the calculations indicated above.
Beta: The "Beta" value for INTC is 1.15. A number describing the relation of a stock's returns with that of the financial market as a whole. A positive beta means that the asset generally follows the market. A negative beta shows that the asset inversely follows the market...You may ask how a stock's beta value is determined. At the risk of having your eyes glaze over, we'll tell you that a stock's beta is calculated by looking at its monthly sales, usually for the past five years. Those are compared to the returns of a major index, usually the S&P 500, using it as a "proxy" of the market as a whole. Then, using statistical regression analyses, the beta number is determined for that particular stock.
1-year chart: Stock performance chart over time. As you can see, this is an intraday chart, indicating corresponding movements in the stock's price throughout the day. It shows that Intel started lower and then, steadily increased in price until around 11am, where it dipped slightly until noon, then went back up to trade closely around its closing price level, where it stayed throughout the afternoon, and until the close. You may also choose different timing from 1 day, to 5 years, to the maximum that has been tracked for this stock...
